    Our engineering staff excel in services for many aspects of site engineering, including site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, parking facilities, pedestrian walkways, retaining walls and other structures. We are very experienced in permit coordination and acquisition, and in several Mid-Atlantic regions.

    Expansion and Renovation of Andrew G. Truxal Library

    Anne Arundel Community College

    RJM Engineering, Inc. was the Civil Engineer of record for this project, providing site development design services including the horizontal and vertical geometry of the site layout, design of proposed grading, storm drainage and stormwater management, design of utility connections and relocations, construction sequence, site utilization and erosion and sediment control.

    Site design elements included pathway improvements and a bio-retention pond to address stormwater quality. Structural design for retaining walls and concrete steps was also provided. All designs were prepared using LEED design principals.

    RJM also prepared presentation materials for the site layout as required for public meetings and workshops. In addition, RJM provided construction stage services for review of shop drawings, responding to contractor RFI’s, attending construction progress review meetings and preparing final punch-list.

    Physical Science Complex

    University of Maryland College Park

    RJM Engineering, as a sub-consultant, provided site engineering for the design-build team for this new 160,000 square foot, $128 million research complex. RJM’s scope of services included the following:

    • Designated water and sewer lines to connect to the proposed building
    • Prepared water and sanitary sewer, and storm drain plans, profiles and details
    • Performed sanitary sewer and storm drain design computations
    • Prepared WSSC erosion/sediment control plan
    • Prepared specifications, cost estimate and construction bid documents
    • Provided construction phase services including shop drawing reviews and certifying the testing of the water and sanitary sewer systems

    RJM also provided coordination with University of Maryland, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) and the contractor, and obtained construction permits. All sanitary sewer design work was prepared in accordance with the WSSC Pipeline Design Manual and WSSC Standard Details.

    MARC Wedge Storage Yard

    Maryland Transit Administration

    The proposed MARC Wedge Storage Yard at Union Station is a mid-day train storage facility to meet programmed inspection, servicing and maintenance needs. RJM Engineering provided civil design services for the yard facility, including water and sewer, storm drain, stormwater management, and erosion/sediment control.

    The sanitary sewer system design consisted of a collection and conveyance system for an onsite office building and for train dumps along yard tracks. A grinder pump was proposed in the design because the manhole designated for sanitary waste discharge was higher than yard outfall. A sanitary force main was designed to connect the grinder pump to the designated discharge manhole. Other design services included preparation of specifications for installation of the sanitary force main under existing Amtrak yard tracks using “Trenchless Technology” pipe installations techniques. This project also incorporated remote wireless water meter reading technology.
